THE DARK NIGHT RISES
By Neel Anil Panicker
Life had turned John into a creature of the dark. The night, she held him in her arms. She had served him well all these years. He too had reciprocated, been a faithful lover, never once ditching or shying away from her embrace.
They were a couple___ John and night. They understood one another like no other. Night__when she turned cold__ would creep up to his bones and stay there until morn; night__when she glistened and glowed with a red hot fury___would huff and puff for long only to finally trickle down the nape of his neck.
She was there when he lost his mother; she was there when his father put a gun to his head bidding goodbye to all problems; she was there too when he wanted to cry and weep and howl, gently steering him away from the mean gazes of unwelcome lights.
Each stabbing of his soul nudged him further deep into arms of the night.
A true mating of lovers, if ever there was one.

Great story Neel! I love how you humanized night and made her into his lover. Very different!

Such a sad and sensuous tale. The anthropomorphizing of the night is especially wonderful, with it creeping into his bones and trickling down his neck.
