MERE MEMORIES
By Neel Anil Panicker
“You shouldn’t have done that,” reprimanded Vivek.
“I did the right thing,” countered his wife Kiran as the two stared at the floor that was littered with torn black and white pictures; the frames yanked off the edges and broken into several pieces.
“But,” shot back Vivek, “these sepia toned photos were our dear daughter’s only remembrances of Inder.
“A husband who died within a week of her marriage. I know these were our daughter’s conduits of her best memories with Inder. They’re a time machine she hopped on to revisit a deadened past. It’s time she embraces the future.”

Well there’s some truth in what she said, but it does seem a little harsh.

Hmm, I can’t help thinking that decision to destroy or keep the photos should lie with the daughter not the mother. Interesting take on the photo prompt, Neel.

It’s good to look forward, but she seems a little bit uncaring in her brutal approach!

I hate it when people do hurtful things because “I just want what’s best for you.”

Dear Neel,
I think the mother has overstepped a boundary and made a decision that wasn’t hers to make. We all grieve differently and at different speeds. Evocative piece.

Not for them to decide what she needs, I fear…
