three line tales, week 260: illuminated Fernsehturm top of the Berlin

By Neel Anil Panicker

Denzel watched, mouth agape, eyes wide open, his beat beat on hold as the television screen came alive with the booming words of the Supreme Court Chief Justice– Congrations on becoming the 46th President of the United States of America.”

The entire seven member Blackstone household erupted in euphoria as Denzel’s grandfather, nonagenarian Basil Blackstone, one time cotton farmland slave who, along with his ninety odd blood relatives had been brought by boat from Africa to work as a farm slave in the mansions of the affluent Whites stated, his voice choked with emotion, “Good riddance to evil.”

Though a mere ten year old, the words of his otherwise taciturn great grandfather were not  lost on Denzel, who had seen and experienced enough in the past five years to know the difference between one man who was evil incarnate and the other who had burst into the American political landscape as an ever shining beacon of hope for all citizens regardless of their colour, race, religion, or political ideology.
