Just Ballooning Away

By Neel Anil Panicker

“Yeah, that’s what I want right now. Me on a hot air balloon, and hoping the wind carts me away from this sickening atmosphere. straight out of this disease stricken stratoshere”.

The contraption hovered briefly, then swayed away to a higher altitude.

We—Shilpi and I—were at the beach, our first ‘date’ after the ‘virus’ inflicted ‘stay at home’ diktat.

“Ever the escapist, aren’t you?!”

The extra edge in my fiance’s voice rattled a wee.

I turned around.

The afternoon sunlight danced on our skins.

Her eyes were a mock.

Was she having second thoughts?

Is it The End, I wondered?

  2. Dear Neel,

I guess absence doesn’t always make the heart grow fonder, does it? Nicely done.

    Shalom,

  7. A bit of a different style for you, and it works very well. The hot air ballon imagery all the way to the end. Well done.

  10. Sorry to sound like I’ve copied Rochelle’s comment but in this case absence definitely did not make the heart grow fonder, this virus has given everyone time to take stock I feel, who knows whet the future holds for us all, good stuff I hope. Nice tale

  11. Not a single romantic bone in the girl, sadly 😦 Yes, looks like she’s having second thoughts.

  14. JustJoyfulness hit the nail on the head! Sadly, perhaps the stay at home restrictions revealed more of these two as a couple than they might otherwise have discovered until maybe years after they were married. He should wait for the woman who will go anywhere with him 🙂

  15. Maybe a bit of pre-marital counsel would be wise.
