three line tales, week 207: a man talking to a woman looking out of a barn

By Neel Anil Panicker

Jimmy stared at the desolate wilderness that stretched out all around him as far as the eye could see, and then looked up at the decrepit wooden apology of a house
or should he call that a hut?) in front of him.

“Whose dwelling is or was this bang in the middle of a desert, and if so where is he or where are they are and…such and a myriad other questions assailed his mind as the ex-army man wondered pondered whether he should step inside and seek for himself the answers to the questions that wracked beguiled his mind.

He thought for a while and just when he had decided otherwise, he stepped in through the door-less opening and as he did so he regretted he had done so, for there lying on the mud floor a mere foot away was a dog, its mouth open, teeth all  bared, blood, bile and entrails all spilled onto the floor____a pool of brown over which floated several black ants.
