By Neel Anil Panicker

Mornings were Manisha’s best time of the day.

Being an early riser helped.

She loved to wake up at the crack of dawn, much before man and machine joined forces to ear splitting cacophony, brain numbing cacophonous hell.

Early mornings would find her in the woods behind her modest house.

There, undisturbed, she would find time to connect with her inner soul.

She would free her feet from slippers, and then amble around in the woods, her feet making contact with the soft dewy grass while her lungs soaked in the pristine freshness of a new dawn.

As the sun birthed from behind the hills and sneaked past the tall cidar trees, lending shape and colour to the palm shaped green leaves, she would raise her head just in time to catch the first rays of dawn fall on her awe struck eyes.

The arrival of the Sun God would stimulate the auditory and olfactory senses of myriad creatures___in air, land, and under.

In no time, all around would resonate with an array of multifarious sights, sounds and smells making for a delightful melange.

Watching and soaking in all this would would send Manisha down memory lane.

Happy memories would float by sending seismic waves of delight run down her spine.

Her heart full of warmth and singing lullabies, she would retrace her footsteps.

Back in her abode, she would make for herself a cup of hot filter coffee and watch the sun smile down at her from behind her windows.

Invigorated, she would smile back, Nature’s rays further illuminating her inner glow.

A perfect start to a perfect day.

  1. Lovely, Neel… and apart from the fact that it is cold here, much the way I start my day 🙂

  2. Beautiful story. The sun is like a giant clock key, winding up the day, just as the moon is the key for the night….

      1. Neel, I’m not. I’m a night owl, and often go to sleep not long before the sun rises. Since retirement my hours have been turned topsy-turvy. You are welcome for the feedback.
