REVOLUTION IN THE UNIVERSITY
By Neel Anil Panicker
“We’d no choice,” declared the portly Vice Chancellor of Jawaharlal University, the premier and one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in the country.
“Tell me Dr Yashpal Sharma, what sadistic pleasure do you derive from asking students from impoverished backgrounds to pay highest hostel fees and security deposit, that you’ve upped by a staggering 150 per cent?”
“Inflation,” replied Dr Sharma to the TV anchor’s charges before adding, “the University is running a tight ship. Tough times call for tough decisions. So…”
“So you do so by making hapless students pay for the government’s financial ineptitude. That’s nothing but draconian, Sir.”
