By Neel Anil Panicker

“Just stay calm, play every ball on its merit, avoid playing flashy drives outside the off stump, treat every ball with the respect it deserves…”

Wasim’s kept nodding his head as he checked his thigh pads, before putting on his batting gloves.

Not that he wasn’t listening, or didn’t care about whatever his coach was instructing him.

On the contrary  every word and utterance of Arvind Sir was being stored in the inner recesses of Wasim’s mind, in his memory bank to be retrieved as and when the situation demanded.

As another wicket fell, Wasim bent down and touched his coach’s feet, before stepping into the field.

The last thought that was swirling in his mind before he took guard was that come what may he had to play in the V, be in the zone for the next five  hours if he wanted to salvage not just his team’s reputation but also his own  floundering career.

  1. Exciting 6! Discipline is necessary on the field when a game is close and being able to get into that proper “zone” is all important. Go Wasim! 😀
