Three Line Tales, Week 185

three line tales, week 185: numbers
By Neel Anil Panicker

No defacing of walls, no writing of politically loaded, rabble rousing slogans, no pamphletèering, no scribbling and scrawling of gibberish of any kind___and so went the list, endlessly—a veritable list of DONT’S about what’s not allowed on the streets of Kashmir.

‘If all this is not allowed, if the Army  proscribes all such things then how do we live, breathe, think, speak, dictate, and communicate our thoughts with the man on the street, the very men, women, and sometime soon to be adults who are our strengths, who look up to for every single thing, including deliverance from this daily decades long struggle for bringing meaning into their lives?”

‘Simple,” said someone from the roomful of participants, before adding,”We just turn ourselves over, and accept that Kashmir has become in absolute terms an integral part of India.”
