Steakhouse? He’s invited you to a steakhouse?
“Right. We’re meeting at Allen’s Den.”
Allen’s Den! The one off 3rd Street, Princeton Avenue?
“Yeah”.
Ruby, that place is synonymous with debauchery. It’s where the dregs and druggies, the disheartened and disenchanted, the depraved and deprived denizens of this world end up to kill time and finally to kill themselves.
“Oh! Christy, don’t say that. Come on, it’s just a restaurant. A nice place, agreed they sell pork, and agreed you are a hard core vegetarian, but that doesn’t mean you start making such sweeping generalizations about those who love to have their steak, and that too in the company of good friends.”
Good friends? My foot! Look what hanging out with such ‘good friends’ had turned Alex into!
Ruby looked at her cousin from across the table, who defiantly stared back at her___ her thick set jaw bones, her thinly pursed lips and her unflinching eyes all set in a face that looked as impassive as a wooden horse and suddenly felt a surge of sympathy for Alex, Christy’s ex-husband number three.
“Sorry Christy, I must hurry. It’s a date…our first. I don’t want to keep him waiting, you know”.

Christy might have a point, but at the same time, I can see why Ruby wouldn’t listen to her advice about men! I really liked the alliteration in the fifth line — it gave Christy’s warning the hint of an incantation.

The description of Allen’s Den reminds me of Waffle House restaurants! LOL! Well done…

Sounds like Ruby is making a bad mis-steak and heading for a disastrous date – delightfully different.

Christy has a strong opinion. This may not be liked by all.
