“Seven. No wait, it’s six”.

“That’s wrong. It’s eight…yeah eight. Eight I say, for sure. Wanna bet?”

I heard them in silence___the two, Raj and Arti___my sole link to school days.

They were both wrong. I knew the answer, how couldn’t I not.

There were ten colonnades in all. How do I know that? Remember it after two score years have passed by?

I say, why wouldn’t I? I used to count them, those tall ‘white as angels’ sentinels.

The last one led to the near deserted green room.

  9. They say memories harden, become indelible around the time of a traumatic event. Your story illustrates this point, going from playful to pathos in 60 seconds.
