FENCES
By Neel Anil Panicker
Fences
I keep jumping
each one
higher than the one
left behind.

Each illuminating

a wee bit more

than the previous

my path, my goal, my vision

stretched out ahead.

Beckoning me
like a fond lover’s arms.

I stride on,
unmindful
hacking through

the thick undergrowth

that’s life
cutting, thrashing, wearing, pulping

to void
all roadblocks.

Bludgeoning my way through
life’s endless vicissitudes
ever hopeful, ever optimistic, ever smiling.

My vision
turning into reality
every breath that I take.
