LOVERS KNOW NOT ‘NO’
By Neel Anil Panicker
“No, it’s not a good idea”.
‘What, taking what is yours, or us, running away from our homes and building a future for ourselves?’
Neelima opened her mouth to say something but caught herself as she eyed a couple of middle aged men approaching the corner.
It was early morning, the hour hand of the clock having just kissed five but the park was already a beehive of activity, what with joggers in tracking pants zipping past and small groups of yoga enthusiasts settling down on the still wet grassy grounds and moving their bodily contours, displaying gravity defying jaw dropping pyrotechnics.
Her eyes were still a morning blur what with all that late night video chatting that had spiralled onto the wee hours of the morning.
“Look Rajat, it’s not about whether this is a good idea or not. It’s just that i feel it’s just not the right time. We need to…”
‘So, now you are telling me that you’ve developed cold feet. That you don’t really like me. That all this that we shared in the past couple of months was a sham; that there’s really no love, that…”
Everything happened in a jiffy.
By the time the two could react, it was too late.
One resounding blow on the face was enough to send Rajat knocking off the bench.
“You bastard, keep off my daughter. The next time i will put a bullet into your head”.
Seconds later strong muscular hands dragged Neelima away but not before she managed to turn around and mouth silently the words, “See you tomorrow”.
