WHEN BLACK IS NOT ALL WHITE (GENRE: REALISTIC FICTION)

three line tales week 131: take my hand

By Neel Anil Panicker

Last night police with the help of several human rights activists raided a top industrialist’s plush fifty crore bungalow located in the heart of Lutyen’s Delhi and rescued Eleanna, a highly emaciated twelve old tribal girl whose frail body, covered with burn marks and blisters, was found chained to the dog house.

On being questioned, the owner, one Mr Raj Singhania feigned ignorance about the matter saying that he had gone out with his family for the opera though sheepishly admitting that he had ‘bought’ the girl for ‘servant duties’ from her parents who hailed from some back of beyond hamlet in Kalahandi, a region that is infamous for mass starvations and one that fell off the developmental map aeons ago.

Later in the day, the Supreme Court, while taking cognizance of a writ petition filed on behalf of ‘Black Lives Matter’, a global organisation that’s working for the rights of the marginalized sections of the society, frowned upon the practice of what it termed an “ingenious but highly inhuman form of ‘disguised slavery’ still prevalent in several so called evolved societies.”
