DAD, I WANT TO BE A CRICKETER
By Neel Anil Panicker
“Dad, I want become a cricketer”
‘Now now son. I know at your age your wants keep changing. Only last week you said you wanted to be a Salsa dancer? And a week before that you were quite stuck up on becoming the next Donald Trump. But why a cricketer of all things?’
“Truth is Dad, I’m inspired.”
‘Inspired by whom, son’?
“These Australian cricketing greats_ Smith, Warner et al.”
‘Well son, let me warn you. Life of a cricketer is not a bed of roses.’ And there’s a lot of stages before you hit the big league. I’m not sure whether you’d get selected for the neighbourhood team even. You need talent, you see’
“Dad, cricketing talents, right? Well, I got them, plus, something else too.”
‘And pray, what’s that my son?’
“Dad, I’m a huge patriot; my biggest virtue is my loyalty. I can do anything for my team. Anything, even cheating.”
‘What? How dare you say that, son? Don’t you know cheating is a crime. Moreover, in these ‘eye in the sky’ times, you can easily get caught doing the act.’
“Well, in that case, I can always apologise and confess to my sins. You know I’m good at crying, don’t you, Dad”?
‘I can vouch for that son’.

Smart as said above, but not very wise. Well done.

A clever lad, me thinks he will go far. If only cheating did not pay. For once the camera in the sky paid its way. But it was a sad day for cricket

Except for the apologizing bit, he does sound like a baby Trump. Kids sure have an interesting way of looking at things.
