WHAT A MESSAGE!
By Neel Anil Panicker
Shreya began to prise open the red and white ribboned rectangular package.
What could it be?
A gift?
Possibly.
But what? And from whom?
Christmas was still a few weeks away.
Her friends? No ways. It was only last month that they had all celebrated her birthday in a grand manner, with a house party, a minimalist affair with home cooked food and dancing under the glare of psychedelic strobe lights while favourite Justin Beiber crooned ‘I’m the one, yeah, I’m the one…’.
So what then was it? Heart beats a maddening yo-yo, her fingers almost ripped apart the last layer of tape.
Out popped a snowman? That’s right, a cute little snowman clad in colourful tee and shorts, black buttoned eyes on snow white skin topped with a protruding orangish nose and blue hat peaked at an odd angle completing the picture.
It was then that the bells began to toll.
She understood the gift for what it was: a message of peace, of global peace from Rueben, her pen pal from distant Alaska.
She entwined her arms around the adorable snowman and immediately felt at peace__peace with herself, with the world, and its inhabitants.

A lovely story of people who love peace and one demonstrating it by sending a lovable snowman as a gift. Good writing, Neel. 🙂 — Suzanne
