STARING INTO THE BORDER

From where he is crouched in his narrow prison bed, he can see there is a hole, a big gaping hole the size of a man’s fist around the granite stone square tiled concrete prison walls.

Ali juts his head in and the next moment he is staring into the outer boundary walls, which miraculously too has a gaping hole, only this time it’s big enough for a baby elephant to pass through.

Rubbing his eyes in disbelief Ali slithers out through the broken walls only to find the pointed edge of a machine gun ribbing through his bones, the maniacal face of his crime boss Abu Fazal smiling down evilly at him.

“What’s the matter, my friend? Why are you screaming out? Did you have a nightmare?”

Ali slumbers out of his stupor; his shell shocked eyes mere hollows inside deep sockets, his thinning hairs all pointing northwards , protruding into space like a frightened, trapped rabbit’s would.

After what seemed an eternity, Ali, still staring into abyss, murmurs incoherently, “My friend, my life is in danger. I need to get out and get out fast from this prison. Will you help me escape to the border?”
