EVIL IN THE AIR

By Neel Anil Panicker

As Anjali’s house and Nyra’s had a common pathway, it was not unusual for the two to bump into each other every now and then, especially now when the two best friends had secured admission into the same college.

“So, what’s special happening in your life?,” inquired Anjali as the two stepped off the kerb that led to their houses.

‘Hmm…I’m having the time of my life,’ gushed Nyra, her cheeks turning a crimson red as she said so.

Oh, why won’t you, thought Anjali, especially when you that have ensnared the most desirable guy in town.

“How’s Raj?, ” she asked casually, as her hands slid inside her sling bag, the fingers tightening around the seven-inch long knife that she had bought yesterday from the convenience store.

“Oh! He’s a peach,” shot back Nyra unaware that very shortly he’ll become out of her reach.

  1. Oooh, evil indeed! Jealousy can lead people to do some horrendous things, and I fear this is going to be one of those times. Something she will regret for the rest of her life. So often we think that by ending another person’s chance at happiness we can add it to our own, and life doesn’t work that way. Chilling but excellent story, Neel!
