NETHERWORLD    (words 169)

This week’s photo prompt is provided by Yarnspinner. Thank you Yarnspinner!

By Neel Anil Panicker

Some memories simply refuse to let go, clinging on, hopelessly, much like leeches slowly sucking away the blood off its victims, all this long after the denizens who gave birth to them have left the earthly firmament.

Like an albatross around one’s neck, they then proceed to knife through fragile guilt-ridden hearts, tearing and shredding to tiny bits life’s tender fabrics.

Reena too is battling one such memory. Her days and nights are subsumed by an avalanche of long orphaned emotions that threaten to tear asunder the very fabric of her existence.

Ever since Edwin’s suicide (though some would term that a murder!) not a single waking moment  has passed by without her being sucked into the dark abysses of hell, a bottomless pit where every breath is a curse, every moment of sanity just one more step towards an  inevitable end.

There is no escaping this madness, she knows…except.

As she ties the saree’s end to the ceiling fan above, redemption, for her, is but a foot away.
