Men are from Mars…  (150 words)

By Neel Anil Panicker

‘Shhh…the show’s started.’

Welcome to our Solar System. Today we talk about Mars, the fourth planet from the Sun and the second smallest. Often described as the Red Planet…

“Jesus, I hate this science stuff. Couldn’t we just leave?”, Harish implored Ananya in the dark.

The two were holed up in corner seats at the Kolkata Science Planetarium, a last minute detour after they found that tickets for the latest Bollywood movie they had come to watch had been sold out.

Unfazed, Ananya focused ahead, eyes riveted on the screen as the voiceover synced with the visuals to deliver interesting tidbits about the terrestrial planet.

An hour later as the two trooped out, an excited Ananya clasped Harish’s hands.

‘Our orbits may be tilted but are paths are elliptical and I love you for the same, my dear red hot volcano.’

Harish simply added, “and I am waiting to explode”.

  1. Dear Neel,

This sounds like you took a page from my book and placed my husband and me in India. 😉 He would be the one watching the documentaries.

Great descriptions and characterization. Nice to know that no matter where they’re born, men really are from Mars. Good one!

    Shalom,

    Rochelle
