Dragon Fire      (167 words)

By Neel Anil Panicker

Inspector Chen Lei slammed the phone down.

The next moment he was putting on his uniform.

“It’s open”.

He turned around.

The girl lay sprawled on the bed, naked as a new born, a tuft of golden hair half hiding her Marlyn Munroe meets Jackie Chan face.

He followed her eyes, found what was missing, and embarrassingly zipped himself.

Constable Dong Liang met him outside Room Number 303.

‘Sir, two__one man and one woman. Both shot through the head.’

“Anything else?”

“Sir…The Chief is here too. On the nineth floor.”

The words hit him like a ten tonne truck.

A double murder on Chinese New Year. His boss on the same hotel, two rooms away his hire for the night.

The phone rang.

Tremblingly, he picked it up.

The harsh voice of Beijing City Police Chief came alive, “I am in Room 901. Rush your ass here.”

Lei felt found the ground beneath his feet give way.

It was the room he had just come out of.

  1. As i mentioned to PJ, i really don;t know what angle it is going to take further. Maybe the chief is the murderer. I would like to believe he has been killed. Just need to explore further and I will come with answers to it.
Thanks Lain for your very insightful comments, as always.
