BYE, BYE 2016, A BIG HI 2017
By Neel Anil Panicker
It is that time of the year when you ring in a new year. All around I hear people saying the time has come.
Boisterous shrieks of joy and laughter rent the air, escaping through every single crevice and wall and in and out of strobe lit clubs and hideously bedecked and bejeweled farmhouses of the nauseatingly moneyed classes.
But then what about the poor; the hapless, the havenots who cringe and converge around dark alleys, those who crumble and shake and lie awake all night under super flyways and skywalks and shaking bridges over which breeze past the corrupt and debauched__singing, smoking, dancing and indulging their hedonistic fantasies to the hilt unmindful of the other half of humanity, the forgotten children of a lesser God.
But then why should we grudge them their time. Only time, which has the final word, will decide their fate. Because time catches up with one and all. The one who is rich can tomorrow become poor and vice versa just as the one who is boastful and conceited and arrogant and cruel can with time become mellow and kind and magnanimous and humble.
So as we cruise into 2017 do remember the time that you leave behind as also the time that awaits you. Unmindful of how the day unfolds, be grateful for the day that has passed and greet the day that looms ahead because time is something that you should towards and not away from.
And finally, before my time is up, I would like to leave you with these nuggets to help you bid goodbye to 2016 and navigate through 2017.
>Time is a landscape we move through: Uncertainty is looming large in Indian politics.
> Time is money: Students must spend their time very wisely
> Time is a resource: The accident victim died as much time was lost in taking him to the hospital.
> Time is a container: It is a two-hour test.
>Time is a changer: Time heals all wounds
>Time is a moving object: The meeting always starts behind schedule
Finally, remember, time is also the place where the old meets the new and passes on the baton in the hope and wish that better visions and dreams get realised in the time to come.
2017 is here and have the time of your life but be cautious enough to keep your eyes forever on the rear view mirror of the past and your feet firmly planted on the terra firma of the present as you breeze through to meet the future.
