Microfiction Challenge #16: Lovers
LOVERS
By Neel Anil Panicker
‘Wake up. It is not a dream. All this is true, real, and it is happening now’.
Preeti had to pinch herself to believe all this was happening. She and Nihil__Nihil and she, arms entwined, hearts beating as one, walking through the night, slowly gliding into the arms of the morrow.
The morrow that held their beautiful future.
The moon, full and resplendent, throwing a protective arc; guiding their path with its incandescence; the Church__her church__standing tall with its spires reaching out into the azure skies. A beautiful synchronised image if ever there was one__ the celestial and the earthly__both coming together and showering their choicest blessings on the newly married, very much in love couple.
From the corner of her eyes, she shot a glance at her lover and now her hubby, the man of her dreams.
He looked, as usual, happy, though of late, especially today, in fact, an hour ago, that too minutes before the wedding, he looked disturbed, slightly though.
‘Who wouldn’t be, she reasoned’. Especially one who had to kill his own brother to marry the woman he loved.
Some dreams, after all, are built over the bodies of others, even our own.
